Welcome to
The Charlottesville Men's Four Miler!

On behalf of UVa's Urology Department and The Charlottesville Track Club, I welcome you to the 8th edition of The Charlottesville Men's Four Miler. We are delighted that you will be joining us for this year's exciting edition of our area's only all-male running event. We're especially excited to have so many newcomers to the sport of running joining us for Sunday's event.

Your support has also helped to raise valuable dollars for Men's Health and Prostate programs at UVa's Urology Department.

There are a few important items we want to share with you prior to race day so as to help enhance your Men's Four Miler experience. Thanks for taking the time to read them and we wish you a successful event on Sunday.

Have fun!

Mark Lorenzoni
Men's Four Miler Race Director

1. NEW!! LOCATION CHANGE!! Entrants should pick up their race packet on Saturday, June 16, 2012 from 10 am - 3 pm in the lobby of the UVA Sports Medicine Clinic at 515 Ray C. Hunt Drive. NOT AT RAGGED MOUNTAIN RUNNING SHOP!! Applicants will take a left after turning into the Fontaine Research Park and then a right to the 515 building. Additional directions and a map can be found at http://uvahealth.com/directions-locations/clinics/uva-healthsouth-outpatient-rehabilitation. A special THANKS to Dr. Wilder and the UVA Runner's Clinic for allowing us to use this space.

Note - Runners who pick up their packet on Saturday will be entered in a drawing to win a football signed by Mike London or the PBS Series Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns.

2. If you (or a friend) absolutely cannot pick up your packet and race number on Saturday, you can pick up your items beginning at 6:15am and until 7am on race morning at Scott Stadium.

3. Race day parking will be available in the big surface lot along Alderman Road just beyond Scott Stadium (take an immediate left just after passing the stadium).

4. We ask that you pin your race number to the front of your shirt or shorts. Please only pin the four small holes and do NOT tear-off the bottom portion until after you have crossed the finish line! Also, please check to make sure that the label information on the tear-off is accurate.

5. There will be plenty of restroom facilities for your convenience just inside the stadium on the mezzanine.

6. The race will begin at 7:30am sharp in the parking lot. Faster paced guys (5-7 minute/mile pace) will line up towards the front.

7. After the start of the race, your family is invited to come watch the finish festivities by sitting inside the stadium. Only race volunteers and participants will be able to be on the actual field, so we ask that spectators remain in the stands.

8. The course map should be posted on the race web site (we also have detailed copies at the shop). It's essentially an "out and back" course. After leaving the parking lot and heading up Alderman to McCormick you will proceed through Central Grounds to Rugby and then up to a right at Grady. You will make a left on Cabell and cruise to Rosser before making a left back onto Rugby and then it's through Central Grounds again and back to the Stadium, except this time you'll make a sharp left off of Alderman onto Whitehead (at the AFC). You will then enter the stadium through the same tunnel the football players do at the east end of the stadium. Make sure to look up at the Jumbo-Tron as you cross the finish line on the fifty yard line. How cool is that?! We are so very grateful to the University Athletic Department for allowing us to use their magnificent facility for this special event finish.

9. Splits will be read off to you at the half mile mark, at mile 1, mile 2 and mile 3. We will have a digital clock displaying your time at the finish.

10. The course is a very fair one with plenty of flat to downhill real estate to take advantage of over the last third of the course. The "uphills" will greet you at the one mile mark, at 1.6 (as you turn onto Grady) and at mile 2 (just after coming of Rosser back onto Rugby. As always, if you take it slower for the first half mile you will be rewarded over the last half of the course, so take it out slow and very easy! Pace yourself!

11. We ask that you always stay to the right of the cones on Rugby. The faster runners will be coming back down Rugby at the same time the slower folks proceed up Rugby. Run on the side you would as if you're driving your car!

12. We will have an aid/medical/water station (courtesy of Dr. Wilder's Medical Team) at the start/finish and at miles 1.1 and 2.7 (both at the UVa Chapel...as you head out and as you come back).

13. When you enter the stadium, remember to LOOK UP and see yourself on the JUMBOTRON screen! Reward yourself for all your hard work over the last 4 miles.

14. After completing the race quickly make your way through the chutes until you exit up into the stands. We ask that you not cross the finish line more than once and that you remain in the stands after the race. Our hosts have asked that there be no one on the field at any time except those just completing the race. Thanks!

15. Please stick around for the awards ceremony (~9:00am) as we're giving out dozens of prizes to top finishers in 16 different age categories. We will be going as deep as Top 5 in some of the categories.
