The Ride

Join us for another year of cycling fun at the 2009 Cap2Cap ride! Be a part of one of the fastest growing riding events in the region and support the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation in their mission to make the Virginia Capital Trail a world-class adventure. This year you will once again be treated to some of the most stunning scenery Virginia has to offer, while pedaling through 400 years of history. In our continuing pursuit to make your Cap2Cap experience one you will never forget, we're rolling out some new features this year:

  • More distance options: 100, 50 and 25 miles from both Williamsburg and Richmond start lines
  • A free youth and family kids course in Richmond
  • 15-Mile Family Route on the Virginia Capital Trail from Williamsburg
  • A mass start parade with lots of fanfare for each distance, complete with lead vehicles and police escorts the first couple of miles
  • New starting locations and routes, with Richmond riders departing from beautiful Rocketts Landing in downtown Richmond, and Williamsburg riders departing from the picturesque Chickahominy Riverfront Park in James City County
  • Improved on-road support
  • A delicious lunch at the finish line, with food and drink available at rest stops throughout each route
  • Richmond post ride celebration

Thanks to extensive support from the Richmond (RABA) and Williamsburg (WAB) bike clubs, you will find friendly and knowledgeable volunteers ensuring that you have a great day.

The Route

Choose which capital to start from, our modern capital in Richmond or our colonial capital in Williamsburg, and ride through diverse landscapes along one of the oldest routes of commerce in the New World. The corridor is well-known for its generous tree canopy, storied plantations, Civil War battlefields and farmland that remain largely unchanged. Route 5 is also part of the Trans-America Bike Route and now a designated link of the East Coast Greenway. As you ride, you will see portions of the beautiful Virginia Capital Trail under construction in Charles City County. Check back to virginiacapitaltrail.org for route maps in the future.
